Out of an intense, back-and-forth collaborative dialogue developed this unique space where discordant, rough, chaotic ideas are brought to the studio and built up into a coherent and easily understood whole.  Within four months working together with our client, an empty, unfinished north-facing garden level space became an arresting example of design and urbanism.  Material, color and form in the initial concept contrast with bold orange in an open space; only one office is closed by solid walls.  Three are separated by translucent panels, and four-foot tall partitions separate cubicles to allow privacy when seated but not enough to divide the flow of light. Panels held by steel studs create an “idea lounge,” a haven for creative study; a production room offers a deep cabinet for art supplies and other utilitarian uses.  Soaring above the polished concrete floors of the reception area is a ceiling “cloud” that directs the eye downward to the conference room, symbolizing visual motion with horizontal slits of light.  Vertically intersecting the “cloud” is a sculpture fabricated from salvaged exterior signage.  The studio’s iconic elements take mundane shrinkwrap and ¼-inch steel rods as a framework to create a lamp which appears as bright cones tightly stuffed into a bag.  A few steps beyond descends a perfect, clean-line cone to suggest the evolution from chaos to order complete.
