INTERNAL MEDICINE CLINIC
omaha, nebraska
This design, a comfortable, quiet feeling of warmth, uses a calming, muted color palette. A new glass entry allows an inviting view inside. Compact fluorescents serve as illumination; carpets are 100 percent eco-solution nylon; and new acoustical ceilings cut ambient noise. Updating existing furniture offers a fresher look, and a TV display seamlessly is incorporated into surrounding shelves stacked with products and literature. A new design for the reception desk draws clean, rhythmic, horizontal lines to the glass shelves. Manipulating tactile materials, such as wood, glass, granite--even brushed aluminum laminated over wood on the reception desk--invite a curious touch. Cork tile on the walls offer the receptionist a tackable surface for notes and pictures. Relocating office doors and creating two separate windows to a single counter for patients checking in and out greatly improves traffic flow. This example of design and urbanism easily overcomes existing constraints, making the most of the space’s 800 square feet.
